Matthew Barnaby agrees to plea deal, avoids deportation

Current ESPN analyst and former NHL forward Matthew Barnaby was ordered to complete 500 hours of community service in exchange for having charges dropped stemming from an argument with his estranged wife.

Barnaby allegedly caused an estimated $300 in damage when he kicked the garage door in an attempt to enter the home where his wife and two children live.

In addition, Buffalo State Supreme Court Justice Deborah Haendiges issued a one-year protection order against Barnaby, and ordered anger management counseling.

“We’re very happy with that result,” Barnaby’s attorney, Frank LoTempio, told The Associated Press by phone. “We feel it’s very fair and warranted.”

Baranby, who is from Ottawa, could have potentially been deported if he had been convicted.
