UNC seems to have mishandled everything throughout the entire situation which has spread through its football program.
Last season was gutted and derailed by the ongoing suspensions, appeals and drama which hung over the program.
It appeared that the school would put that season behind it and move ahead with Butch Davis until his sudden firing a few days ago. Now, the latest move is a resignation belonging to AD Dick Baddour (who will remain in place until a replacement can be found).
The timing is curious and suspect and you really have to wonder why this move was made now? What else did UNC or its athletic board become aware of that motivated it to take this action after ACC media days and before the season kickoff. It would seem that it would need to be something severe and substantial in order to justify this timing.
As always, those hurt the most by the timing of the decision are the players who are now left to deal with the fallout for a second straight season. NFP’s Dave Miller rightly points out that this timing is a serious slap in the face for the UNC players.
