Illinois LB Ashante Williams suspended

Illinois Fighting Illini coach Ron Zook announced the indefinite suspension of linebacker Ashante Williams on Saturday.

Besides citing a violation of team rules, Coach Zook refused to elaborate on the circumstances behind the suspension.

Williams had been projected as a potential starter who would fill one of the two vacant roles the Illini have at the linebacker position. He appeared in all 13 games last season as a defensive back and recorded 19 tackles and one pass breakup.
