Despite getting himself out of Washington to play football, it appears that Albert Haynesworth will still be spending time in DC to attend his sexual abuse trial.
According to the ESPN report, both sides have made allegations about attempts of the other party to allegdly payoff witnesses.
Haynesworth is scheduled to be in D.C. Superior Court on Monday afternoon. A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s office declined to comment on the reason for the hastily scheduled status conference, though it could suggest a possible plea agreement.
Haynesworth is accused of sliding his credit card into a waitress’ bra and touching her breast at the W Hotel in Washington, where he was having drinks with friends in February. Haynesworth was a member of the Washington Redskins at the time.
Haynesworth’s lawyer had told the Boston Herald that his client would appear Tuesday for the opening of the trial. If it goes forward, it’s unclear how long the trial will take or how long it will keep him away from the Patriots. If convicted, Haynesworth faces a maximum penalty of six months in jail and up to a $1,000 fine.
