MN HS boys basketball coach under investigation

Kurt Virgin, on paid leave since November, has retired as police look into how he handled money from his summer sports camps.
The longtime coach of the Eagan High School boys’ basketball team has resigned amid a police investigation into possible financial improprieties at sports camps he supervised.The Eagan Police Department reported Tuesday that it is investigating Kurt Virgin, who was on paid leave while the Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan School District conducted its own investigation. Virgin resigned his position and retired as of Monday, according to the district website. Virgin did not return calls seeking comment about the investigation or his retirement.His departure was made public on Monday at a school board meeting.School spokesman Tony Taschner said that Virgin’s departure ended the school’s investigation into the matter.”There’s not an employee to investigate,” Taschner said when asked why the internal investigation was concluded.The school district refused to say what camps Virgin was operating, whether they were done under the auspices of the district and how much, if any, public money was used to operate the youth camps.
